Ramachandra Yadava

Ramachandra Yadava
(?-1311)
Succeeding to the throne in the Yadava kingdom of Deogir (later Daulatabad) in 1271, Ra-machandra extended his domain toward Malwa as well as up to Nagpur and Balaghat. In 1294, Ramachandra submitted to 'Ali Garshasp (later 'Ala al-Din Khalji), then governor of Kara. Sub-sequently, the Yadava ruler lost much of his territory in the Deccan to the Kakatiyas and Hoyasalas. Around 1307, Ramachandra wa-vered in his allegiance to Delhi but was forced to repent, surren-dering the Vaghela princess Deval Rani, until then betrothed to his son, to 'Ala al-Din. In 1310, Ramachandra cooperated with Malik Kafur when the latter invaded south India. Ramchandra died in 1311, paving the way for the annexation of Deogir to the Delhi sultanate in 1317.
